Major Advantages of Alloys Wheels

It's no secret: When it comes to contemporary automotive fashion, alloy wheels are a must-have. Want to test that claim? Check out all the celebrities, or more specifically, check out their wheels - they're all alloy. But you still might be wondering what alloy wheels are, what makes them different from so-called "normal wheels", and why you need them. Well, wonder no more! Just read on...

First, it should be noted that alloy wheels serve the same function as any other type of wheel. The difference between them is that alloy wheels have several distinct advantages over traditional wheel-making materials. For starters, they're lighter, while simultaneously being as strong (or in some cases, stronger) as traditional wheels. Additionally, their superior performance capabilities make them ideal for high-end vehicles, like Porsches.

Alloy wheels are made in two ways: Forging and casting. Of the two, forging is more durable, as well as being lighter. However, the trade-off is in their higher price tag. Cast alloy wheels, on the other hand, are very similar in style to their forged counterparts, and they cost less. They are, however, heavier, so they usually don't find their way onto high-end sports cars. Even so, both wheel types can be made to accommodate almost any vehicle.

Magnesium alloy wheels, or "mags", constitute a third option. Lighter and better-performing than both traditional steel wheels or the two previously discussed alloy choices, magnesium alloy wheels are the go-to option for racing vehicles. Again, this isn't set in stone - you can put them on your everyday car, should you so desire.

The advantages gained through the use of alloy wheels should be obvious by now, but just in case they aren't, consider this: Alloy wheels are lighter. This means your car will perform better than it otherwise might. This translates into a superior driving experience, and you'll get better gas mileage, too! Additionally, alloy wheels promote a well-balanced vehicle, which means less stress on the axles, body, and other parts of your car. Less stress means fewer repairs. And again, we can't forget the style!

One final thought: A car's wheels are a fashion statement. Alloy wheels make people sit up and take notice, and will last for years if properly maintained. If you don't want to shell out the cash for new alloy wheels, consider the pre-owned market, whereby you can snap up a set of used alloy wheels for one third the cost of new ones.

And that's all there is to it! You now know all you need to know to hit the road in style!
